Animals left behind in a world of volcanic ash

These chickens are scrounging for food in an ash-covered wasteland as the eruption of Mount Sinabung continues to affect Indonesia's North Sumatra province.


Almost 20,000 people have been evacuated from a 5-kilometre area around the volcano, reports local media. This has seen animals, like these chickens in the farming village of Sigarang-Garang, left behind.
